E3: Nintendo Unveils Wii Sports Resort, Animal Crossing: City Folk and Wii Music

During their pre-E3 press conference, Nintendo today unveiled its latest offerings for the Wii console. Primary among these titles is Wii Sports Resort, the sequel to Wii Sports. It will be the first title to use the Wii MotionPlus accessory, with new mini-games like Sword Play, Power Cruising and Disc Dog.

"Much has been reported about the 'expanded audience' for games, but what's really at play is an expanded experience," said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. "People of all ages having fun together- whether in the same room or from remote locations- puts smiles on faces and drives millions of new players into video game entertainment."

Nintendo also announced Animal Crossing: City Folk for the Wii. The new simulation title will let players visit their friends houses or bid or their items via WiiConnect24. Players will also be able to talk with each other in Animal Crossing: City Folk using the WiiSpeak microphone (sold separately for US$29.99).

Finally, Wii Music was unveiled after years of being shrouded in secrecy. The music title will allow players to use the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers to simulate 60 different instruments, ranging from violin to steel drums, electric guitar and cowbell. Users can send their "mistake free" arrangements to friends and family using WiiConnect24.

Wii Music will release Winter 2009, with Wii Sports Resort coming Spring 2009. No release date was given for Animal Crossing: City Folk.
