HBO is back in session with 'In Treatment.'
The network has just renewed the Emmy-winning drama for a third season, reports the Hollywood Reporter, with a premiere date set for sometime in 2010.
Gabriel Byrne will return to the show, under the direction of two new showrunners: 'Tell Me You Love Me''s Anya Epstein and actor/writer Dan Futterman, who received an Oscar nomination for penning the 2005 film 'Capote.' Further casting decisions will made in the coming weeks.
Though critically lauded, 'In Treatment' has struggled to find an audience over two seasons; its Jan. 2008 series premiere was seen by just 446,000 viewers, according to Broadcasting & Cable. The fate of the show has also been in question from the get-go, since the original Israeli series ran for just two seasons.
Still, the show has received a number of major accolades along the way, including a Golden Globe win and two Emmy nominations for Gabriel Byrne. Dianne Wiest, who plays Byrne's psychiatrist on the show, also won a Best Supporting Actress Emmy in 2008, and was nominated again this year, along side co-star Hope Davis.
Earlier this month, HBO also ordered a second season of the quirky comedy series 'Bored to Death,' which stars Jason Schwartzman as a writer moonlighting as a private detective.
