On the eve of Resident Evil 5, Capcom just announced plans to bring its horror franchise back to Wii with Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles (due next winter) and the Resident Evil Classics series that allows gamers to play the GameCube titles Resident Evil and Resident Evil Zero with Wii controls.
The Darkside Chronicles is the official sequel to Capcom bestseller The Umbrella Chronicles and takes place during the events from Resident Evil 2. Similar to its predecessor, this on-rails light gun shooter lets players blast zombies and other monsters with Wii remotes and take alternate pathways through the game's environments. Played co-operatively with a friend or alongside a computer-controlled partner, gamers will experience plenty of scares and make use of a new Evade system.
Resident Evil classics follows in Resident Evil 4's footsteps as GameCube games with Wii controls. Capcom plans to sell Resident Evil and Resident Evil Zero for US$29.99 each and has yet to announce whether either game will include additional content.
While not as cool as a Resident Evil 6 announcement, it's great that Capcom will continue the series on Wii. We'll have more details as soon as the company reveals them.
