Speaking to Dengeki PlayStation 3 magazine, producer Yoshinori Kitase indicated that development on Final Fantasy XIII is progressing well. He said that right now the anticipated latest entry into the Final Fantasy franchise is at the "tail end" of the development cycle.

He hopes that Final Fantasy XIII will make use of the PS3's power the way Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy X made use of the PSOne and the PS2, respectively. "Doesn't the demo use about 50 percent of [the PS3's] power? Of course, I think the retail version will make use of nearly 100 percent," said Kitase in a Kotaku translation.

Kitase noted that there won't be disc swap issues because of the Blu-ray and hard drive included in the PS3. Final Fantasy XIII is currently in development for the PS3 in Japan, though the game will eventually release on the Xbox 360 in the U.S. and Europe.
