While the current generation of consoles is in full swing, there are some gamers out there clinging to the previous generation. That's somewhat easier if you're using the PS2 since Sony continues to support the aging platform, but Microsoft long since abandoned the original Xbox. Today, the company officially put the final nail in the Xbox's coffin by announcing that service repairs for the original Xbox system will no longer be available, for those systems that are now out of warranty.
Microsoft is, of course, encouraging owners of the first Xbox to finally upgrade to the Xbox 360.
"Any other technical support, documents, and content, however, will continue to be available to all our customers. Although Microsoft is ending repair services for the Original Xbox, an upgrade program and support will be maintained for Original Xbox consoles that are still under Warranty," reads the company statement. "...If you have an original Xbox console that is in Warranty that requires a repair, you will be able to submit an exchange request for an upgrade to Xbox 360 online."
