Xbox 360 Prices Slashed!

Following price cuts earlier this fall in Japan, Europe and North America, Microsoft today announced a price drop on the Xbox 360 in Australia. The Arcade SKU has been lowered from $349  to $299, which the company said makes the entry level 360 "less than half the RRP price of the next cheapest hi-definition console in the country." That, of course, is Sony's PS3 (40GB), which retails for $699. Nintendo's Wii typically sells for $399.

Microsoft also lowered the Xbox 360 Pro (60GB) model from $499 to $399, and the company lowered the Elite model from $649 to $549.

"Gaming is set to be one of the hottest categories this year. Consoles are a great gift for the whole family. Now that we're making gaming even more affordable Australians can have more fun for less this holiday," said Jeremy Hinton, Xbox group product marketing manager, Australia and New Zealand. "Xbox 360 is the cheapest next-gen console on the market, has the biggest number of next-gen games and it's the home of Xbox LIVE, the largest social network on TV."

He continued, "The Xbox 360 also has an amazing line up of games this festive season including Lips, Fable 2, Gears of War 2 and Guitar Hero: World Tour, making it a great present for the whole family."
