Yes you can create an E-mail address while registering for your AOL® service.
Your AOL® E-mail address is your online identity. The screen name is visible to everyone when you communicate with others online. Your E-mail address will appear in e-mail, on the Buddy List®, in instant messages and in message posts exactly as you have created it. Every AOL E-mail address is unique.
Screen names are not case sensitive, so they may be typed any way you like and they will still be recognized. For example, JohnQDoe is the same as johnqdoe or JOHNQDOE.
Each E-mail address will require its own password to sign on to the AOL® service.
Note: You can use your AOL® E-mail address and password on the AIM® service. You no longer need a separate password to sign in to AIM®. You can also change the password for your AOL E-mail address when you are on AIM. If you do so, you'll need to use the new password to sign on to the AOL® service.
