You may not be able to locate an e-mail using AOL® Mail on the Web for any one of several reasons. After trying the first solution, check to see if you can locate the e-mail using AOL Mail on the Web. If you are still unable to locate the e-mail using AOL Mail on the Web, continue using the suggested solutions until the problem is fixed.


You may wish to print or save a copy of these instructions as this page may not remain visible as you go through the suggested steps.

Check the old mail folder


If you have read the e-mail, please check the Old Mailbox for the e-mail.


To view old mail:
1. In the left panel, click the Old Mail folder.
2. Check for the e-mail you are looking for.


Note: Read e-mail remains on the service for 1 to 7 days (depending on your account settings).

Check the recently deleted folder


If the e-mail was deleted from the mailbox, you may recover it from the Recently Deleted folder.


To check recently deleted e-mail:
1. In the left panel, click the Recently Deleted folder.
2. Determine if the e-mail you are looking for is present.
3. If you find the e-mail that you are looking for and wish to restore it, simply right-click it, then click Restore.


Note: You may retrieve an e-mail that was deleted in the last 24 hours. E-mail deleted longer than 24 hours is unrecoverable.

Check the saved mail folder


The mail may have been saved to Saved Mail using the Saved on AOL feature.


To check in the Saved Mail Folder:
1. In the left panel, click the My Folders folder.
2. Click the Saved Mail link.
3. Check for the e-mail you are looking for.


Note: If needed, type either part of the subject for the e-mail or the sender's E-mail address you are looking for, then click the Search button. If the search results do not locate the e-mail you are looking for, then the e-mail is not located in Saved Mail folder.

Check the spam folder


The mail may have been put into the Spam folder.


To check the Spam folder:
1. In the left panel, click the Spam folder.
2. Determine if the e-mail that you are looking for is present. If you find it, right-click the e-mail, then click Not Spam.


Note: When you click Not Spam, it returns to your inbox.

Check spam mail controls


If the e-mail that you are looking for is not in the spam folder it is possible that your Spam mail controls have deleted the e-mail.


To set your spam mail controls to save spam e-mails in the spam folder:
1. Click the Settings link.
2. Click the Spam Controls link.
3. In the Blocked Mail section, choose the Deliver blocked mail to Spam folder option by clicking it, then click the Save link.
