Once you have read an e-mail, the e-mail will move to your Old mail folder the next time you open your mailbox, and stays for 7 days after which it gets deleted. You can either click the Keep As New button to move the e-mail back to your New mail folder, or you can also save it to your My Folders.
Keep an e-mail as new for AOL® Mail on the Web
Keeping an e-mail as new will move it to your New Mail folder.
To keep an e-mail as new for AOL Mail on the Web:
1. On the AOL Mail window, click the Old Mail link.
2. Click the box next to the e-mail you wish to retrieve to place a check mark in it.
3. Click the Keep as New button.
