Today on AOL section and the headers may not load if your firewall software is blocking certain Web protocols that AOL® Mail on the Web uses. To see if your firewall is blocking AOL Mail on the Web, try disabling it. The instructions to disable some firewall is listed below. If instructions for your firewall are not included below and you are not sure how to disable your firewall, contact your firewall manufacturer for further assistance.


If the AOL Mail on the Web site loads correctly after disabling your firewall, try configuring your firewall software to allow webmail.aol.com access. If you are not sure how to do this, contact your firewall's manufacturer for further assistance.


Note: If you are using Norton™ Internet Security™ or Norton Personal Firewall 2003 or 2004, the configuration instructions are listed below.


Disable Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall


Once you have tested whether the AOL Mail on the Web site loads correctly, be sure to turn your Norton firewall back on.


To disable Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall:
1. Open Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall.
2. Click the Status & Settings link.
3. Click Personal Firewall to highlight it.
4. Click the Turn Off button.

Configure Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall


You can configure the Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall to allow webmail.aol.com access.


To configure Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall:
1. Open Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall.
2. Do one of the following:


  •  
    In Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall 2003, if needed, click the Options button, click Internet Security or Personal Firewall, then click the Web Content tab.
  •  
    In Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall 2004 or newer, double-click the Privacy Control icon, then click the Advanced button.

3. Click the Add Site button.
4. In the New Site/Domain box, type webmail.aol.com, then click the OK button.
5. In the left box of the Options window, click webmail.aol.com to highlight it.
6. Click the Global Settings tab.
7. In the Information about visited sites section, click the Use default settings box to clear it.
8. Click the Permit button.
9. Click the OK button.

Disable the McAfee® Personal Firewall


Once you have tested whether the AOL Mail on the Web site loads correctly, be sure to turn your McAfee firewall back on.


To disable the McAfee personal firewall:
1. Open McAfee Firewall.
2. Click the Stop McAfee Firewall link.
3. Click the Personal Firewall link.
4. Click the Turn Off button.

Disable the AOL® Safety and Security Centre Firewall


Once you have tested whether the AOL Mail on the Web site loads correctly, be sure to turn your AOL Safety and Security Centre firewall back on.


To disable the AOL Safety and Security Centre firewall:
On the Windows® taskbar next to the clock, right-click the AOL® Safety and Security Centre icon, select Firewall, then click Disable.

Disable the Mac® OS X Firewall


Once you have tested whether the AOL Mail on the Web site loads correctly, be sure to turn your firewall back on.


To disable the Mac OS X Firewall:
1. Click the Apple menu, then click System Preferences.
2. Click the Sharing icon.
3. Click the Firewall tab.
4. Click the Stop button.
