Reinstall the AOL Toolbar Software
Reinstalling the AOL Toolbar software will restore any missing or damaged files.
To reinstall the AOL Toolbar software:
1. Go to http://www.aol.com.au/toolbar.
2. Click
the Click to Download Now! button.
3. Follow the
onscreen prompt to download and complete the installation.

You can drag and drop text from Internet Explorer® or most other Microsoft® product documents to the AOL® Toolbar 5.0 Search box.
Drag and Drop Text to the AOL Toolbar 5.0 Search Box
When you drag and drop text in the AOL Toolbar Search box, the search will begin automatically.
To drag and drop text to the AOL Toolbar Search box:
1. Click the text you
want to drag and drop to highlight it.
2. Click and hold your left mouse
button on the highlighted text, move your mouse to the search box, then release
the button.

Download the AOL Toolbar
To install the AOL Toolbar using Microsoft® Internet® Explorer:
1. Go to
http://www.aol.com.au/toolbar or go to AOL®
Keyword: AOL Toolbar on the AOL® software.
2. Under About AOL® Toolbar for Internet Explorer®, click the Click to Download Now! button.
3. Click the Open or Run button if prompted to commence
the download, then follow the onscreen directions to complete the
installation.
Note: If the Internet Explorer® window is open, please close and reopen it to activate the AOL Toolbar software.

System Requirements
The minimum system requirements for installing and using the AOL Toolbar 5.0
software are:
Microsoft® Windows® XP, XP 64-bit, Microsoft Windows Vista™
Microsoft Internet Explorer® 6.0 or above
Note: Microsoft Windows 2000/Me/98 can use AOL Toolbar 3.1. AOL Toolbar software is not available on Mac®.
Turn the AOL Toolbar On or Off
You can turn off the AOL Toolbar 5.0 software temporarily without uninstalling it. You can turn it back on again at any time from your browser menus.
Turn Off or On the AOL Toolbar 5.0 software
To turn off or on the AOL Toolbar with Internet Explorer® 6.0 .
In the browser window, click the View menu,
select Toolbars, then click AOL
Toolbar.
To turn off or on the AOL Toolbar with Internet Explorer® 7.0:
In the
browser window, click the Tools menu on the right side,
select Toolbars, then click AOL
Toolbar.
Notes:
A check mark next to AOL Toolbar in the Toolbars menu indicates that it is currently turned on.
Turning off the AOL Toolbar will also disable the pop-up blocker.
Search
You can use the AOL Toolbar to search the Internet based on the text you type in the search box. You can even customize your search by limiting it to certain types of content.
The AOL® Toolbar includes an icon to provide you with quick access to your AOL®, AIM®, or My eAddress e-mail. If you are already logged into your e-mail account or have authenticated via the AOL Toolbar, clicking the Mail button will take you straight to your mailbox.
To check your e-mail:
1. In the browser window, on the AOL Toolbar, click
the Mail button.
2. In the Screen
Name: box, type your screen name or your My eAdddress login.
3. In the
Password: box, type the password to your e-mail
account.
4. Click the Sign In button.
Instant Message
To use the AOL Toolbar Instant Message (IM) feature, you must have AIM® software installed on your computer. You can use AIM software to send a link of the Web page you are viewing to other AOL or AIM users.
Pop-up Blocker
The AOL Toolbar can block most Web page based pop-ups. You can customize the pop-up blocker to allow or block all pop-ups, or allow pop-ups from certain web sites.

About AOL Toolbar 5.0 Options
It's easy to configure the AOL Toolbar 5.0 software to suit your needs. AOL Toolbar 5.0 Options allows you to choose your toolbar's layout, search preferences, pop-up settings, add options, and clear your browsing footprints.
Access Your AOL Toolbar 5.0 Options
To open the AOL Toolbar 5.0 Options window:
1. On the right side of the
AOL Toolbar, next to the Sign In link, click the Toolbar Options icon, then click Options....
2. In the AOL Toolbar
Options window, click the tab with the settings you want to adjust.
3.
Adjust the desired settings, then click the Save button.
The options available under each tab are:
General: Lets you automatically check for AOL Toolbar updates and choose to show a confirmation screen when custom buttons are dropped onto the toolbar.
Customize: Select buttons you would like to move or remove from your AOL Toolbar. You may also add a button from the AOL Toolbar Gallery.- Search: You can select Show Search
Button, Show Highlighter Button when searching,
Turn Highlighting on by default, or Use
Search history feature.
You can even control what occurs when an item is selected from your search history. You can choose either Run the search right away, or Wait until the Enter key is pressed or the Search button is clicked. - Pop-ups: Select whether you want to allow all
pop-ups, block all pop-ups, or allow pop-ups from certain Web sites only.
The Animated Media section of the Pop-up Controls tab allows you to select whether you want to allow all animated media or block animated media on certain Web sites.
Privacy: Choose what data you would like cleared such as, Browsing history, Cookies, Browser Cache, Recent Searches, or Blocked pop-up list.

Using AOL Toolbar Search, you can customize your search to look for pictures, audio, videos, shopping, news and more. To access AOL Toolbar Search, you will first need to install the AOL Toolbar. Customize Your Search
Using AOL Toolbar Search, you can specifically search the Web for information you need, images or pictures, audio files, video files, local information, and details on shopping and top news.
To customize your search:
1. In the Internet Explorer® window, on the AOL
Toolbar, type a search term in the box labeled Enhanced by
Google.
2. Click the small, blue down arrow to the left of the input
field to access the menu of available categories.
3. Click the desired
category to begin your search. Search results will be displayed in the browser
window.
Note: If you do not specify a category for your search, the general Web Search will be chosen as default.
Search History
A history of all the search terms you have used on AOL Toolbar Search is maintained for your future reference.
To access your search history, click the green drop-down arrow to the left of the Search button.
Clear Your Search History
When you clear your search history, any record of your previous searches will be removed and a new history list will be started with your next search.
To clear your search history:
1. In the search box on the AOL Toolbar,
click the small, blue down arrow to the left of the input field.
2. Click
Clear Your Search History.
Turn Off or Turn On Your Search History
By default your search history is turned on. You can turn it off if you want
to by following these simple steps:
1. On the right side of the AOL Toolbar,
next to the Sign In link, click the Toolbar
Options icon, then click Options....
2. In the
AOL Toolbar Options window, click the Search tab.
3. Click the Use Search
history box to clear it, or to place a check mark in it if you wish to
turn it back on.
4. Click the Save button.

You may not be able to see your AOL® Toolbar for one of two reasons. After trying the first solution, check to see if you can see the AOL Toolbar. If you are still unable to see the AOL Toolbar, continue to the next solution to resolve the issue.
Solutions
Enable the AOL Toolbar
If the AOL Toolbar is disabled, it will not appear as part of the Internet Explorer toolbar.
To enable the AOL Toolbar in Internet Explorer® 6.0 and
earlier:
On the browser window, click the View menu,
select Toolbars, then click AOL
Toolbar.
To enable the AOL Toolbar in Internet Explorer 7.0:
On the browser window,
click the Tools menu on the right side, select Toolbars, then click AOL Toolbar.
Note: When enabled, a check mark will appear next to AOL Toolbar.
Move the AOL Toolbar
If the AOL Toolbar is partially visible, it should be moved to its own line on the Internet Explorer toolbar.
To move the AOL Toolbar in Internet Explorer® 6.0 and
earlier:
1. If the toolbars are locked, on the browser window, click the
View menu, select Toolbars, then
click Lock the Toolbars.
2. Click the separator next to
the AOL® icon and drag it down to its own line.
To move the AOL Toolbar in Internet Explorer 7.0:
1. If the toolbars are
locked, on the browser window, click the Tools menu on the
right side, select Toolbars, then click Lock the Toolbars.
2. Click the separator next to the AOL® icon and drag it down to its own line.
Note: Your mouse arrow will turn into a double arrow when it is over the separator.

The message "Cannot find current version information" is displayed if a file is invalid or missing. To resolve this error message, reinstall the AOL® Toolbar software.
Reinstall the AOL Toolbar Software
Reinstalling the AOL Toolbar software will restore any missing or corrupted files.
To reinstall the AOL Toolbar software:
1. Go to http://www.aol.com.au/toolbar.
2. Click the Click to Download Now! button.
3. Follow the onscreen prompts to download and complete the installation.
4. Launch Internet Explorer® as you would normally. The AOL Toolbar will appear below the Internet Explorer Address bar.

You will receive the message, "Can't find uninstaller," if the uninstaller file is damaged or removed. To resolve the issue, reinstall the AOL® Toolbar software, then run the uninstaller again.

side of the AOL Toolbar, next to the Sign In link, click
the Toolbar Options icon, select Help, then click Uninstall

Verify Installation
After downloading and installing AOL Toolbar 5.0, it will be listed in the Internet Explorer® Toolbar menu.
To verify installation of the AOL Toolbar 5.0 software for Internet Explorer® 6.0:
Click the View menu, select
Toolbars, then determine if AOL
Toolbar is listed.
To verify installation of the AOL Toolbar 5.0 software for Internet Explorer®
7.0:
Click the Tools menu, select Toolbars, then determine if AOL Toolbar is
listed.
Note: A check mark next to AOL Toolbar indicates that it is enabled.

The AOL® Toolbar 5.0 software is configured to automatically check for updates. If you have turned that feature off, you can manually check for updates.
Manually Check for AOL Toolbar 5.0 Software Updates
When you choose to manually update the AOL Toolbar 5.0 software, it will first check if any updates are available.
To check for AOL Toolbar 5.0 updates:
1. On the right side of the AOL
Toolbar, next to Sign In link, click the Toolbar Options icon, select Help, then
click Check for Updates....
2. If an update is
available, follow the onscreen prompts to download and install it. Otherwise,
click the OK button.

The Microsoft® Pop-up Blocker installed with Windows® XP SP2 takes precedence over the AOL® Toolbar Pop-up Blocker. If you want to use the AOL Toolbar Pop-up Blocker, you will need to turn off the Microsoft Internet Explorer® Pop-up Blocker.
Turn Off the Microsoft Internet Explorer Pop-up Blocker
You can turn off the Microsoft Pop-up Blocker in either of two ways.
To turn off the Microsoft Pop-up Blocker from the Internet
Explorer window:
In the upper right of the Internet
Explorer window, click the Tools drop-down menu,
select Pop-up Blocker, then click Turn Off
Pop-up Blocker.
To turn off the Microsoft Pop-up Blocker from the Internet
Options window:
1. On the Internet Explorer
toolbar, click the Tools menu, then click Internet Options....
2. Click the Privacy tab.
3. In the Pop-up Blocker
section, click the Block pop-ups box, or "Turn on Pop-up Blocker" box, to clear it
4. Click the OK button.

Check the Connection With Your ISP
AOL Toolbar uses your existing Internet connection to receive the files needed to perform an update.
To check the connection with your ISP:
Enter the address for a Web page
and verify whether you are able to access that Web page normally.
Try Again Later
The AOL® service is temporarily unavailable to update your AOL Toolbar. Please try your request again at a later time. Thank you for your patience.
To try again later:
Wait a few minutes, then try updating the AOL Toolbar
again.

Notes:
For users with Microsoft Windows 2000/Me/98, we recommend using AOL Toolbar 3.1.
This was the final version designed for use with those operating systems and will grant you the optimal experience.

You may not be able to get the AOL® Toolbar menu in Internet Explorer® to display properly for any one of several reasons. Use the solution below to ensure that the Toolbar menu is properly displayed.

Reset Internet Explorer's Toolbar Menu
Sometimes installing multiple toolbars in Internet Explorer can cause the toolbar menus to get mixed up. Both Internet Explorer and the AOL Toolbar have toolbar menus.
To view the AOL® Toolbar menu:
On the AOL Toolbar, right-click the mouse
to display a menu of toolbars. Any toolbar with a check mark next to it is
enabled.
To view Internet Explorer's toolbar menu using Internet Explorer 6.0 and
earlier:
Click the Internet Explorer View menu, then
click Toolbars. Toolbars with check marks next to them
should be active.
To view Internet Explorer's toolbar menu using Internet Explorer 7.0:
On
the right side of the AOL Toolbar, click the Tools menu,
then click Toolbars. Toolbars with check marks next to
them should be active.
If the toolbars from a toolbar menu don't correspond to the toolbars in the
browser, you can fix this by following these simple steps:
1. On the right
side of the AOL Toolbar, next to the Sign In link, click
the Toolbar Options icon, select Help, then click Reset IE "Toolbar"
Menu....
2. Click Yes if prompted.
To reset the Toolbars in Internet Explorer 6.0 and earlier:
1. On the
browser window, click the View menu, select Toolbars, then click Customize....
2.
Click the Reset button. The toolbar list will be
automatically reset.
3. Click the X button in the upper
right to close the Customize Toolbar window.
To reset the Toolbars in Internet Explorer 7.0:
1. On the browser window,
click the Tools menu on the right hand side, select Toolbars, then click Customize....
2.
Click the Reset button. The toolbar list will be
automatically reset.
3. Click the X button in the upper
right to close the Customize Toolbar window.

You can uninstall the AOL Toolbar 5.0 from the browser window.
To uninstall AOL Toolbar 5.0:
1. On the right side of the AOL Toolbar,
next to the Sign In link, click the Toolbar

Easy Sign in to the AOL® Service
Signing on to the AOL service has never been easier! To log in and have access to your email and other personal features without losing the web page you are currently viewing, click on Sign In link on the right side of the AOL Toolbar. You will be prompted for your screen name and password to complete the login process.
View Your New Emails at a Glance
If you are already logged into AOL® Mail on the Web, you can place your mouse cursor over the Mail button and click on the small red down arrow. This will display your newest emails subject line, time, and sender. Click on an e-mail or the Go To Mail button to open your Mailbox.
Note: If you have not logged in to AOL Mail on the Web, the box will instead prompt you to log in.
New AIM Full Service Button
We have added a shortcut to log into the AIM service to make your online communication experience more convenient. We now have several features under AIM button in the AOL Toolbar to allow faster one click actions.
Send new IM: This link helps you to start a new instant message session with a friend or Buddy.
IM This Page: You can click this link to send the web page you are currently viewing to a friend or Buddy.
Buddy Feed This Page: This link is to set the web page to be listed in your RSS feed.
Turn on away message: This link to set up your away message through the browser.
Turn on 'browsing' away message: This link to set up a default away message to let people know you are browsing the web.
You can edit the text from the edit link next to the Turn on 'browsing' away message link.
Share AOL Toolbar with a Buddy: You can click this link to send the link to download the AOL Toolbar to a Buddy.

About Pop-up Blocker in AOL Toolbar
The AOL Toolbar adds pop-up blocking functionality to your Internet Explorer. When you need pop-ups allowed for Web browsing, you can turn off the Pop-Up Blocker or customize the Pop-up Blocker controls to allow pop-ups from certain sites.
Notes:
The Pop-up Blocker in the AOL® Toolbar software is a different piece of software that has slightly different behaviors than the AOL® Pop-up Controls in the AOL® software.
The Pop-up Blocker settings in the AOL software are applied individually to each screen name on the account. Pop-up settings within the AOL Toolbar software will apply to any Web site that is accessed using the Internet Explorer software.

Note: The Pop-Up Blocker icon will display a red circle with a slash symbol over a white window to indicate that all your Web pop-ups will be blocked.
Allow Pop-ups from a Specific Web site
You can also customize the AOL Toolbar Pop-up Blocker settings to allow pop-ups from specific sites that you are currently visiting. This feature will only be available if you are currently blocking pop-ups from all Web sites.
To allow pop-ups from a specific Web site:
On the right side of AOL
Toolbar, click the Allowing Pop-ups or Blocking Pop-ups icon, then click Allow Pop-up

Note: The Pop-Up Blocker icon will display a red circle with a slash symbol over a white window to indicate that you have blocked Web pop-ups from the current Web site that you are viewing.
Customize Your AOL Toolbar Pop-up Blocker
You can manually adjust the settings for your AOL Toolbar Pop-up Blocker to allow pop-ups from specific sites.
To customize your AOL Toolbar Pop-up Blocker:
1. On the right side of the
AOL Toolbar, click the Allowing Pop-ups or Blocking Pop-ups icon, then click Set Pop-up
Controls Preferences.
2. Under Pop-Up Windows:,
choose the Allow Web pop-ups from these sites: option by
clicking it.
3. In the Allow Web pop-ups from these
sites: box, type the Web site address for which you want to allow
pop-ups.
4. Click the Add button.
5. Click the Save button.
Note: To remove a Web site from the list, in the large box, click the Web site address you want to remove to highlight it, then click the Remove button.

You will receive the message "You must have administrator rights for this computer in order to make these changes," if you attempt to upgrade the AOL® Toolbar software using a non-administrative account with Microsoft® Windows® XP or Windows Vista™. To resolve this error message, log in using the Administrator user name and password, then attempt to upgrade the AOL Toolbar software again.
Note: If you do not know the password for the Administrator account, contact either the computer administrator or the computer manufacturer for further assistance.
You may wish to print or save a copy of these instructions, as this page may not remain visible as you go through the suggested steps.
Log in as Windows Administrator, Then Upgrade
You must have administrator access on the computer to upgrade the AOL Toolbar software.
To log in as Windows Vista™ administrator, then upgrade:
1. Click the
Start button, click the arrow next to the Lock the computer (requires password to unlock), then click
Log Off.
2. Click the Administrator icon.
3. In the Password
box, type the Windows administrator password, then tap the Enter key on your keyboard.
4. Launch Internet
Explorer.
5. On the right side of AOL Toolbar, click the Toolbar Options icon, select Help, then
click Update Toolbar....
6. Click the Yes button.
7. If a new update is available, follow the
onscreen prompts to download and install it.
To log in as Windows XP administrator, then upgrade:
1. Click the Start button, click Log Off, then click
the Log Off button.
2. Click the Administrator icon.
3. In the Type your
password box, type the Windows administrator password, then tap the Enter key on your keyboard.
4. Launch Internet
Explorer.
5. On the AOL Toolbar, to the left of the search box with the
magnifying glass, click the small black down arrow, select Help, then click Update Toolbar....
6.
Click the Yes button.
7. If a new update is available,
follow the onscreen prompts to download and install it.
