5 Minutes with Manning Cartell

Originally from North Queensland, the three sisters behind Manning Cartell, Cheryl, Vanessa and Gabrielle launched their first collection in the 2006 autumn/winter season. Since their teenage days, the trio has all spent time in the fashion industry, and have a wealth of fashion knowledge between them.

Manning Cartell’s work is feminine and detail-centric, with a focus on delicate, girlish features. Bows and ruffles are joined by a creative use of luxurious fabrics and quirky yet classic styling, leaving little wonder why they are a favorite with stylish young girls and elegant women alike.

Label name:
Manning Cartell

Designers’ name:
Cheryl, Vanessa and Gabrielle Manning

Based in:
Sydney

Your style…
It’s a mix of eccentricity and style, playfulness and culture, irony and elegance

This season's highlights
Art Nouveau meets the 21st Century.

The exoticism of the 1920’s and the influence of cultures such as Oriental Aztec and Egyptian can be seen in silhouettes, prints and embellishment.

We’ve used hues of bronze and copper, violet and red to highlight the largely monochromatic palette.

A fascination with the flapper dress is seen in the various mini dresses, knits and hand beading.

What are you most renowned for?
Being clumsy and winning lucky door prizes. Last year I won 4.

What are two of your favourite things about winter?
Wearing boots and layering.

This season is made easier with jackets and coats having fuller sleeves .

It’s a shame to take off a great coat when you can wear it all day.

Tell us two of the designers you admire (or design eras). Doesn't have to be fashion-related.
Balenciaga and I love the Forties for the amazing cut lines.

Something you absolutely can't live without…
yoga classes
