Where are you from?
I’m originally from Melbourne but now I divide my time between Sydney and Bali throughout the year.
Your style…
I like to bring a sophisticated blend of modern, somewhat geometrical and vintage-inspired components to my ranges- developed through creative experimentation and natural curiosity.
The label for me has matured over the seasons, its primary focus now being beautifully tailored garments with clever detailing and distinctive prints. Silhouettes are both functional and feminine, and the recognisable but evolutionary aesthetic of the label is now stronger then ever.
This season's highlights:
This season for winter, Shakuhachi is all about a tough, luxe mix of polished cottons, sequinned silk chiffons and delicately printed silk crepes and silk velvet, executed in a sombre, grown up colour palette. It’s elegant and playful at the same time, beautiful and soft with a tough, confident edge. There is definitely an element of androgyny in there, a delicate mix of masculine silhouettes balanced with more feminine and soft fabrications and styles. I was also influenced by the movie Mad Max, again because of a clash of futurism contrasted with a very primal element of tough survival in the desert.
