Gottex gives swimwear an upscale makeover

Gottex presented a new interpretation of swimwear Monday night, with sequined one-pieces, plastic-looking bikinis and wide belts wrapped around the waist like the suits were superhero costumes.

The spring 2010 collection is an "exploration in the fusion of technology and luxury," according to the notes.

Photogallery: Molly Grad's Spring 2010 collection for Gottex was all about sequined one-pieces, shiny bikinis and wide belts, wrapped round with some surprise cut-outs.

There weren't too many "wearable" suits, unless you don't mind an off-the-shoulder bikini top with sleeves, but the ensembles were classy.

A "gunmetal" colored plastic-looking halter top bikini was worn with a coral necklace and paired with a matching bikini bottom that had corals dangling from the sides. A yellow abstract printed one shoulder suit had a thick gold accent belt around the waist.

And a black asymmetric suit had crystal embroidery on the front and silk petal-like detail on the strap creating an evening look, if there's such a thing in swimwear.

But perhaps what was most stunning were the cover-ups that were like elegant caftans; a red abstract print with drapey sleeves touched the runway, flowing behind the model as she walked. And a blue and gold lame caftan added sophistication to a black corset-like suit.
