The Associated Press reports that the Rev. Daniel Walz alleges that Adam Race's behavior is so unruly and out of control that he is a danger to the other parishioners at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church. No matter. Race's parents are ignoring the restraining order, insisting it is discriminatory. After attending Mass with her son, Carol Race has been ordered by police to appear in court for violating the restraining order. "He said that we did not discipline our son," Race told AP, talking about the priest. "He said that our son was physically out of control and a danger to everyone at church. I can't discipline him out of his autism, and I think that's what our priest is expecting."
People who go to church once a week enjoy an extraordinary health benefit.
It all began nearly a year ago when Walz and a trustee from the church visited the Races at home, in an attempt to discuss Adam's behavior in church. Adam is only 13, but he is over six feet tall and weighs more than 225 pounds. Walz offered options for accommodations for the family, but they refused all of them. The family of seven typically sits in the last pew or in the crying room to not disrupt the service. After the restraining order was served, they continued going to church but leaving before the recessional hymn to avoid contact with others. The Diocese of St. Cloud supported the priest's legal actions, saying it was "a last resort out of a growing concern for the safety of parishioners and other community members due to disruptive and violent behavior on the part of that child."
This is very surprising! Guess who doesn't believe in God?
According to Walz, Adam's behavior is outright dangerous to others in the congregation. He once struck a child during Mass and has almost knocked over elderly parishioners when he leaves church. He also spits and sometimes urinates in church and fights when he is being restrained. He ran outside during Easter Mass and started parked cars and once assaulted a girl by pulling her onto his lap.
