The Associated Press reports that regular beachgoers say the nude beach is an accepted part of the area even if it is on public land. Everyone is welcome--with or without a swimsuit--but cameras may not be used without permission and sexual behavior is forbidden. How is this legal? Vermont has no laws banning public nudity.

Now a contingent of Westmore residents wants to be able to use the beach without having to worry they or their kids will see someone in the buff. Hence, there is now the push for an anti-nudity ordinance. "For me, it's about common public decency--getting families and kids and people and Westmore back down to what they all talk about as being the most beautiful place, and they don't go there any more," resident Tony Strange told AP. While they aren't sure how they would enforce such an ordinance, the three- member town Select Board will meet on June 23 to consider the issue.
