Ladies, if you want to drive a man wild--and get him to notice you--wear THIS color!
In this latest study on sexual imprinting, the Hungarian team measured the facial proportions of the members of 52 families. There were significant correlations between the young men and their father-in-law, especially in the central area of the face, including the nose and eyes, reports the BBC. Women most resembled their mother-in-law in the lower face, especially the lips and jaw. "Our results support the sexual imprinting hypothesis which states that children shape a mental template of their opposite-sex parents and search for a partner who resembles that perceptual schema," Tamas Bereczkei told the BBC.
When beautiful women marry plain (or even ugly) men, something magical happens.
Interestingly, this phenomenon cannot be attributed just to familiarity. If that were the case, we should also have templates for the same-sex parent. Instead, the researchers think we choose different facial areas of our parents as models for our mates in accordance with general sexual preferences for facial traits.
Attractive women really are pickier! When looking for a husband, they seek these four qualities.
Is there an advantage to marrying someone who is similar genetically? Yes and no. "There is an argument that a certain degree of similarity makes people more fertile and genetically compatible," Dr. Lynda Boothroyd from the University of Durham in England told the BBC. While marrying someone who is too close genetically can result in inbreeding, you shouldn't worry too much about that. "We have a lot of mechanisms, such as pheromones and smell, to stop us choosing someone too similar to us, like an immediate family member," Boothroyd told the BBC. The study findings were published in the journal Proceedings B.
