Originally a pseudonym under which artist and graphic designer Rob Maniscalco exhibited art projects, Claude Maus evolved into a fashion label in 1999, and very quickly established Maniscalco as one of Australia’s most dynamic and challenging fashion designers.
Since winning the L’Oreal Designer of the Year award in 2003, Maniscalco has evolved his label to include a no-nonsense range of men’s and women’s denim jeans, leather jackets and gothic-inspired streetwear.
With all the trademarks of a cult-label, Claude Maus maintains a strong undercurrent amongst devoted and discerning followers from Australia to Europe, Japan and North America. Some such followers include internationally recognized bands The Presets and Cut Copy, who also double as collaborative partners in both fashion and art.

This season's highlights
For winter 2008, Claude Maus takes inspiration from time spent at an eco-home. Built on a river’s edge in the Victorian highlands, the home is a curious mix of quilted patchwork throws, wood paneling, argyle pattern LED lights and rabbit-skin coverings. Wool/silk georgette dresses drop to the floor and reference the windows with embroidery detail. The same window detailing is mirrored as intricate panel work on the hooded leather bomber jacket, the latest incarnation of the Claude Maus winter staple.
What are you most renowned for?
Punctuality! And Claude Maus is well known for its coveted black leather bomber jacket. It’s an inter essential in Melbourne, and now interstate and overseas too.
