From furnishings to staff uniforms, every part of the 30-bed Han Sheng Hospital in Yuanlin is emblazoned with the popular animated cat motif.

Hospital director Tsai Tsung-chi said: "I wish that everyone who comes here - mothers who suffer while giving birth and children who suffer from illness - can get medical care while seeing these kitties brings a smile to their faces, helping forget about their discomfort and recover faster."

Patients at the hospital are welcomed by a statue of Hello Kitty dressed in a doctor's uniform before travelling to a pink examination room - adorned with posters of the cartoon favourite - in a Hello Kitty elevator.

Hello Kitty was created in 1974 by Japanese company Sanrio.
