A 57-year-old conservative female candidate for Berlin's Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district in a September 27 federal election is busting out all over. Vera Lengsfeld, a former East German dissident and single mother, has spiced up an otherwise dull election by showing a little cleavage. All right. A lot of cleavage. And it has created quite a buzz, especially those provocative campaign posters that show her and compatriot Chancellor Angela Merkel in (very) low-cut tops. This is the slogan: We Have More to Offer.
Vera Lengsfeld, a 57-year-old candidate in a federal election in Germany, has spiced up an otherwise dull election with racy campaign posters that show off her cleavage and that of Chancellor Angela Merkel. The campaign slogan? We Have More to Offer.
TIME magazine reports that Lengsfeld is running as a candidate for Germany's Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and faces a formidable battle since most of her constituents are members of the opposition Green Party. So Lengsfeld decided to exploit what she had to win votes for her and the CDU. The revealing shots on the campaign posters have generated both glee and outrage across Germany.
Elizabeth Hurley, Rosario Dawson and Elizabeth Berkley showed off their cleavage at the Breast Cancer Research Foundation's annual Hot Pink Party Goes Cool spring gala at the Waldorf-Astoria.
Interestingly, even though Lengsfeld is pictured with Merkel, Merkel didn't give her permission to be used quite this way. Lengsfeld bought the rights to the photo--taken during a visit to the Oslo opera in April 2008--but never asked for the chancellor's consent. "I know Mrs. Merkel, and I know that she's got a sense of humor," Lengsfeld told TIME. "I'm sure she'll be amused." Not everyone shares that sense of humor, apparently. Lengsfeld is being accused of stooping too low to get votes. "It's ridiculous to suggest that I'm being sexist or anti-feminist," Lengsfeld explained to TIME. "I'm a woman and I'm proud of that. I just wanted an eye-catching campaign poster to draw attention to serious election issues, like climate change. The posters are meant to be funny and ironic."
When actress Eva Longoria Parker showed up at the Los Angeles press conference to promote Rally for Kids with Cancer Scavenger Cup Presented by Wonderwall.com, she made sure everyone noticed her in a tight little black dress that showed off her cleavage to perfection.
