RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK (1981): Probably Harrison Ford's most popular role - Dr. Henry Walton Jones Jr., better known as Indiana Jones - was created by George Lucas as a homage to the serial films of the 1930s. Lucas had originally cast Tom Selleck for the part but he had to drop out due to his commitments to 'Magnum PI', the classic TV show. The first film 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' was a box-office smash and was nominated for eight Academy Awards, including Best Picture, in 1982. It ended up winning for Best Sound, Best Film Editing, Best Visual Effects and Best Art Direction-Set Decoration.
