GLADIATOR (2000): Russell Crowe's first role in a Ridley Scott film also became the film that made Crowe a worldwide star. The film was a global hit and helped revive the 'sword and sandal' genre that inspired other movies like 'Troy' and '300'. Initially, Crowe questioned every aspect of the script and strode off the set when he did not get answers but Scott admired Crowe as an actor and commended his dedication to the role. The film was won five Academy Awards at the 2001 Oscars including Best Director for Ridley Scott. On rumours of a sequel or a prequel to 'Gladiator', Russell says: "Ridley and I talk about that quite regularly. It's probably not something we want to discuss right now."
