2008 Australia Awards Set to Be MTV's Biggest Yet
Tonight, a 10,000 strong crowd and a long list of some of the hottest celebrities in the world will rock Sydney’s Australian Technology Park for the MTV Australia Awards 2008. You can thank MTV for bringing down the likes of Mischa Barton, Leona Lewis, Brian McFadden to present and performances from 50 Cent, Eve, Juliette Lewis & the Licks who are among the eight set to entertain.

'It Girl' and style icon, Mischa Barton arrived in Sydney, specially for the MTV Australia Awards 2008 as a special guest presenter. She will be presenting the first ever MTVAA 'Movie Star'award to Hollywood's 'new action hero', Matt Damon. "I am really excited to be coming back to Australia for the MTV Australia Awards” said Mischa Barton "I'm looking forward to a great night of live entertainment."

Former MTV Australia VJ, Lyndsey Rodrigues is also returning to Sydney to present an award. Lyndsey will take time out of her current duties in New York as the host of TRL and The Big 10 for the first time since moving to the US. Having worked on the MTV Australia Video Music Awards in 2006 and 2007, MTV Australia welcomed Lyndsey back to the newly styled awards show as a guest and presenter.

Rodrigues says "I am so excited to come home and be a part of the world first version of the MTV Australia Awards. Attending this year’s awards as a presenter is going to be so surreal - I'll probably have to fight the urge to start interviewing people backstage!"

MTV Networks Australia and NZ Managing Director Dave Sibley had this say about her: "Lyndsey's a class act – it will be a treat to have her back. Don't be surprised if her passport goes missing & she's forced to stay a little longer."

After three years as a VJ for MTV Australia, Lyndsey Rodrigues made history as the first Aussie to ever be signed on as a host with MTV US’s flagship music video countdown show, TRL (Total Request Live).

In her years with MTV Australia, Lyndsey worked across a number of projects including the MTV Australia Video Music Awards, the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards, MTV Snow Cave, MTV Beach House, MTV Full Tank and MTV News.

Making yet another come back (of sorts) are the Aussie rock sensations The Vines, who in a world first television exclusive, will perform the first single off their new album to a legion of fans at the show. Joining The Vines as part of the award show’s killer local line-up are The Potbelleez and Kisschasy.

Kisschasy created a huge stir at the MTV Australia Video Music Awards 2007 when they walked – or rather didn't walk - down the red carpet wearing the masks of our leaders. The masks were to feature in the video of their hit single 'Opinions won't keep you warm at night'. Now the band is set to perform to a crowd of thousands at this years awards show. The Melbourne foursome has earned fans around the country for their frank and outspoken lyrics, proving to youths of today that having a social conscience is very “rock and roll”.

Irish born/Sydney based electro house duo The Potbelleez have dominated the indie-club scene with their hit song 'Don’t Hold Back'. Front men Dave and Jonny have wasted little time in establishing their name throughout Sydney’s hugely competitive house scene. From 2002 to 2004 the pair ran the infamous ‘Beats on and off Shore’, which started what has become a cult following amongst fans, and acclaim from hard to impress dance music industry.

Hollywood party girls Kim & Khloe Kardashian, the sexy stars of the E! reality show 'Keep Up With The Kardashians' and Australia's Olympic pride, Ian Thorpe, are other celebrities who will be presenting at the show. International hip-hop star Wyclef Jean will serve as host.

All in all, eleven awards will be presented across music, film, television, sport, viewer-generated content and topical pop-culture moments. Eight categories will be viewer-chosen and the remaining three categories – favourites in sports, film/tv actor and international music act will be selected by MTV Australia as a way of acknowledging those who have had a significant influence on the Australian MTV audience.

The MTV Australia Awards 2008 will broadcast on MTV Saturday April 26 from 7:30pm with an encore screening on FOX8 Sunday April 27 from 6pm and Saturday May 3 from 7:30pm.
