Canadian men's water polo coach Dragan Jovanovic was ejected from Thursday's match against Australia, a penalty that comes with a one-game suspension from Olympic competition.
Jovanovic will not be allowed to coach in Saturday's match against Greece.
"Honestly, I don't care," said Jovanovic, whose team lost 8-5 and dropped to 0-3 in Group A preliminary play. "The ones who are playing are in the water and they're going to do a good job for sure. I'm going to prepare the team the next couple of days for the game against Greece, but execution is coming from the players in the water."
Jovanovic received a red card in the third quarter for arguing a call with the referees. He was escorted from the bench and off the pool deck, but he emerged a few minutes later and watched from about 20 meters (50 feet) away. He even had an Olympic volunteer retrieve his water from the bench.
Jovanovic stood there well into the fourth quarter, but shortly after he shouted a few pointers toward the pool, he was asked to leave the pool area for good. He begrudgingly obliged, shaking his head as he walked away.
"It shows they don't agree on the red card," Jovanovic said. "When I was doing a little more than I was supposed to, they said, 'OK, you can't stay here. You've got to go.' It's ridiculous, but whatever."
Jovanovic said he complained that referees were letting the Australians get away with illegal tactics above and below the water.
"They were blind to that," Jovanovic said. "That's something I can't stand. I'm not going to just close my eyes to that."
Canada also had three players foul out of the physical match. Center forward Nathaniel Miller argued with one of the refs regarding his third and final major foul. He received a red card and also had to leave the bench area with about 2:30 remaining. His ejection does not incur a suspension.
Jovanovic said his team's physicality had nothing to do with two lopsided results to open the games. Canada lost 16-6 to Spain, then got drubbed 12-0 against Montenegro _ the first shutout in Olympic competition since 1976.
Assistant coach Robert Couillard, who took over for Jovanovic, will coach against Greece.
