The 'Revolutionary Road' star says Mia - her child with ex-husband Jim Threapleton - disapproves of her wearing black too often and advised her on what to wear on a recent TV show.
Speaking on US TV show 'The View', Kate - wearing a fitted grey jacket over a black pair of trousers and shirt - said: "I have an eight-year-old daughter and she is a little bit of a fashionista. In fact, just the other night she said to me, 'Mum, just a personal question. Why do you wear so much black?'"
"I said to her, 'What colour do you think I should wear?' And she said, 'Pink, no not pink. Anyone over the age of 10 shouldn't wear pink!' "
Kate - who is the hot favourite to win Best Actress at next week's Academy Awards following a string of successes at the Screen Actors Guild, Golden Globes and BAFTA award ceremonies - has also revealed she loves dressing up for the prize-giving ceremonies because she was too fat to wear nice clothes as a child.
She said: "My mother would get me to wear a pink puffball hand-me-down skirt that had to be let out because I was considerably stockier than my sister. So I never felt great dressing up. Now I just want to enjoy it."
