Paul Newman Cremated in Private Funeral Service

The 'Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid' actor – who died last Friday after losing his battle with cancer – was remembered in a small ceremony attended by friends and family, according to his former business partner A. E. Hotchner.

When Hotchner was asked about the funeral, he replied to the New York Post newspaper: "It's all over!"

Hotchner, who started Newman's Own food business with Paul, also revealed the company are planning to give away a further US$26 million to a "wide variety of charities". The business has already donated US$150 million to good causes.

When asked what he remembered most fondly about Paul, who passed away aged 83, Hotchner said: "The great fun we had - the mischief. Everything we did was a lark."

Meanwhile, Julia Roberts, Sean Penn and Tom Hanks will honour Paul's work in a special tribute on October 27.

The event, which will also feature Jack Nicholson, Bruce Willis and Billy Crystal, will see the stars perform a reading of 'The World of Nick Adams' – Hotchner's adaptation of several Ernest Hemingway stories.

Proceeds from the reading to be held at San Francisco's Davies Symphony Hall will go to the Painted Turtle, a US camp for seriously ill teens, which belongs to Paul’s Hole in the Wall camps.
