Sonique's breast cancer has spread

The ‘It Feels So Good’ singer – real name Sonia Clarke – underwent surgery at a London clinic on Monday (15.06.09) but test results yesterday (18.06.09) showed the illness has spread to lymph nodes under her arms.

She faced a second operation and further tests Friday to establish if the cancer has spread to any of her vital organs. Her spokesperson Stuart Watts confirmed: "Sonique has been taken back into theatre for another operation this morning as the cancer has spread."

The 40-year-old star discovered she had the potentially fatal disease last week and was receiving treatment as "a matter of urgency". She may now be forced to cancel a number of summer concert dates, including an appearance the Danube Island Festival in Austria next week.

Sonique won the BRIT Award for British Female Solo Artist in 2001 and was hoping to release her new single 'World Of Change' next month. The single release will be delayed if Sonique's health continues to deteriorate.

Sonique began her career in London reggae band Fari, before going on to sing with dance group S'Express in the 1990s. She is the latest in a series of music stars - including Kylie Minogue, Sheryl Crow, Anastacia and Olivia Newton-John - to battle the illness.
