Two German climbers have been killed in an avalanche in Canada.

The bodies of Ulrich Bohne, 39, and Josef Rademacher, 41, were found Friday in a crevasse that was packed with avalanche debris on Mount Athabasca in Jasper National Park.

Officials released their identities Tuesday.

Bohne, a doctor, and Rademacher, a police officer, were both from Sundern in west-central Germany.

The two were struck by the snowslide Thursday afternoon.

A search began after another group of climbers reported spotting the pair on the mountain.

Police said Tuesday the men appeared to be prepared with all the necessary equipment, but the section of they were climbing had a steep, icy slope with unstable snow on top.
