The U.S. Embassy in Berlin says a German contractor apparently has committed suicide inside the embassy building.
In a statement, the embassy says the person died around 1 p.m. Friday "under circumstances that indicate a possible suicide" but released no further details.
Berlin police, who are in charge of investigating the incident, say it was a man who worked as a security guard.
They say they cannot release other details amid the ongoing investigation, but are also treating it as a suicide.
