An official says a roadside bombing of a prison vehicle killed at least two police, three prisoners and three children in volatile northwest Pakistan.
Government official Habib Rehman says the bomb went off in the Dir region as the vehicle was taking a group of prisoners from court to jail on Thursday.
A school bus carrying the children was nearby.
The attack occurred around the same time an apparent suicide car bomb destroyed a police building in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, wounding at least four people.
Pakistan's lawmakers also were meeting Thursday for a private briefing on the militant threat facing the country, a critical U.S. ally in the war on terror.
