The head of a lawmakers' standards committee says he's stepped down amid questions over his own use of expenses and allowances.
David Curry, an opposition Conservative legislator and chairman of the Parliamentary Standards and Privileges Committee, said on Thursday he had quit his post.
Curry is the latest lawmaker caught in a scandal over the alleged abuse of House of Commons allowances.
Britain's Daily Telegraph newspaper alleged Curry had claimed 30,000 pounds (US$50,000) toward a home that he does not use.
Curry says in a statement he referred his own case to Britain's Commissioner on Parliamentary Standards.
Curry's committee decides on punishments for lawmakers found to have abused or manipulated expense rules.
