The Court of Arbitration for Sport has dismissed an appeal by the World Anti-Doping Agency against Italian footballer Nicolo Cherubin's doping suspension.

WADA had asked for the former Reggina player's doping ban for missing a test in 2007 to be extended to between one and two years from the one month suspension imposed by Italy's Olympic committee and football federation.

A panel of CAS judges ruled on Thursday that WADA had failed to establish that the 22-year-old defender had been properly informed he had to take a doping test and that he had refused or failed to give his sample in the proper time.

The ruling comes a day after sport's highest court temporarily lifted one-year doping suspensions it gave to Italian football players Daniele Mannini and Davide Possanzini in order to look at new evidence.

The Italian football federation provided CAS with new evidence to explain why the players missed post-match doping tests in 2007.
