A Chilean volcanologist says the Chaiten volcano is once again rumbling and could be preparing for another eruption.
Jorge Munoz of Chile's geological service says recent seismic activity and ash emissions could be the lead up to the "worst scenario" of a reactivation of the volcano, located 745 miles (1,200 kilometers) south of Santiago.
The Chaiten volcano began erupting May 2, emitting clouds of ash and rock that forced the evacuation of thousands around the town of Chaiten.
Its activity had declined since, but Munoz said Wednesday vulcanologists began seeing renewed activity Wednesday and think it could mean that a new inflow of magma has met an obstruction.
Munoz warned Saturday of the possibility of an eruption in the coming days.
