A Chinese fishing boat capsized after colliding with a South Korean cargo ship off South Korea's southernmost island Monday, leaving six Chinese sailors missing, the coast guard said.
The 16,000-ton South Korean vessel rescued two Chinese crew members after the accident in waters about 175 kilometers (109 miles) southwest of Mara island, said Kim Hyung-wook, a South Korean Coast Guard official on Jeju island.
The coast guard deployed two search-and-rescue vessels to find the six missing fishermen, and was investigating the cause of the accident, said Kim.
The collision came two days after a similar accident near Mara island, Kim said, adding that five of seven crew members from a Chinese fishing boat involved in that incident remained missing.
