Crew defender Hendrickson retires

Veteran Columbus Crew defender Ezra Hendrickson retired on Thursday, ending a 14-year professional career that included three MLS Cup titles.

Hendrickson, who turns 37 next week, spent 12 seasons with the Crew and helped the team to its first MLS Cup championship in 2008. He also played for New York, Los Angeles, Dallas, D.C. United and Chivas USA.

Hendrickson made 266 appearances in the MLS, starting 225 games and scoring 23 goals. He also appeared in 32 MLS Cup playoff games, and scored five times.
