The family of a 12-year-old American boy missing in Switzerland says he probably fell into rushing water while hiking at a popular waterfall.

In a statement Tuesday, the parents of Noah Kriese of Greenwood, Indiana, said evidence suggests the youth lost his footing and fell Friday along a slippery gorge wall at the Truemmelbach waterfalls near Interlaken.

Thomas Jauch, a spokesman for the Bernese cantonal (state) police, told The Associated Press there were no new signs of the boy Tuesday. A shoe found earlier was determined to be Noah's.

The youth was vacationing with his mother and her family.

The Truemmelbach falls drain glacial water from the famous Eiger, Moench and Jungfrau mountains.
