Government asks judge to intervene in Argentina's largest airline

11-07-2008 - 03:21

The government and three labor unions are asking a judge to intervene in the management of Argentina's largest airline after weeks of labor disputes and poor service.

The unions are asking Judge Jorge Sicoli to ensure that employees are paid.

Thursday's request follows a series of labor disputes that have disrupted service. Employees say their salaries have not been paid.

Sicolari's secretary Damian Moreno says the judge has called for a meeting on Tuesday with "relevant parties" to decide whether to intervene.

The Spanish company Marsans controls Aerolineas Argentinas, but it is trying to reduce its stake in the airline.
