A vacant suburban Sydney home had been cleared to make way for a hydroponic operation in which some 300 cannabis plants were being grown, police say.

Officers raided the Kings Langley property in Sydney's northwest today, finding plants at various stages of maturity "growing in a sophisticated hydroponic set-up inside several rooms and the garage of the split-level home".

"Early estimates suggest the haul has a potential street value of more than $600,000," police said in a statement.

"It appears nobody was living at the house and that it has been cleared for the specific purpose of growing cannabis."

The plants are expected to be removed later today.

No one has been arrested in relation to the discovery.
