Police say a senior manager at a troubled Indonesian securities trading firm has been found dead at his home in an apparent suicide.
Police Maj. Patar Toruan said Thursday that the 35-year-old banker is believed to have hanged himself in his garage in the capital, Jakarta. His company faces possible collapse due to multimillion-dollar trading loses and financial irregularities.
Financial authorities suspended trading at PT Sarijaya Permana Securities on Jan. 6. Local media reports say its assets have been frozen pending a $22.5 million fraud investigation.
Stocks in the Indonesian market have fallen steeply since the global financial crisis began eroding confidence in emerging markets, resulting in huge trading loses.
