UN war crimes judges have rejected the former Bosnian Serb police chief's request to be tried together with his one-time boss, Radovan Karadzic.
Stojan Zupljanin argued that combining the cases would save the Yugoslav war crimes tribunal time and prevent witnesses from testifying twice.
Zupljanin has pleaded not guilty to 12 charges of murder, torture and persecution of Bosnian Muslims and Croats in 1992. Karadzic faces charges including two counts of genocide for masterminding Serb atrocities throughout the Bosnian war.
Judges wrote Tuesday that joining the cases would lead to a lengthy delay for Zupljanin and the former Bosnian Serb interior minister, Mico Stanisic, who are due to be tried together in coming months.
