Kosovo's prime minister is urging calm as the country prepares to mark its first independence anniversary amid rising tension between ethnic Albanians and Serbs.
Hashim Thaci says any incidents of violence would threaten Kosovo's interests and "serve those that speak against Kosovo's independence."
He asked Kosovo's mayors Thursday to talk to constituents and ensure there are no incidents.
Meanwhile, the Serb leaders in Kosovo's north are urging Belgrade to hold a parliamentary session in Kosovo on the Feb. 17 anniversary to drive home their opposition to the former Serb province's independence.
Radical Serb leaders have also called for EU customs booths between Kosovo and Serbia to be burned.
