Touching a new low in corruption in high places, a senior officer with the highly secretive NSW Crime Commission has been charged with alleged involvement in smuggling of drugs.
The controversial officer, Mark Standen, is one of the country's most senior and experienced investigators and has been involved in some of the country's best-known drug, murder and internal affairs investigations over decades.
Standen was arrested over the plot to import chemicals from the Netherlands to manufacture methamphetamine, or "ice".
Further investigations revealed that the senior officer had a gambling problem and now it turns out that his lover is working in the Independent Commission Against Corruption and had access to highly sensitive information.
