Caribbean coastal police are searching for four South American sea lions they say escaped from a St. Kitts aquarium during Hurricane Omar.

Marine World manager Peter Noah says they disappeared after the Category-3 hurricane tore by the aquarium last week.

Noah says the animals have been spotted cavorting off St. Maarten in recent days, but have been hard to track because they can swim up to 50 miles (80 kilometers) a day.

The South American sea lions are not native to the Caribbean's warm waters, but Noah said Friday that they are in no danger.

About 265,000 of them live along the coasts of Peru, Chile and Argentina.
