The Sudanese civil authority says a small plane has crashed in southern Sudan, killing seven people on board. There was one survivor.

The official Sudan News Agency, SUNA, says air operations officer Mohamed Hamza was the crash's only survivor. Seven others _ including four Ukrainians, one Armenia and two Sudanese _ were killed in the crash Friday.

The director-general of the Civil Aviation Authority, Gen. Abu Bakar Gaafar, says the cause of the crash near the town of Malakal was "bad weather."

SUNA says the Russian-made Antonov plane operated by Juba Cargo crashed 70 minutes after takeoff outside of Malakal. The plane was en route from Khartoum to the southern city of Juba.
