Peru's trade surplus fell 41 percent to just under $1 billion in the first half of 2009 due to lower prices for its top mineral exports.
The South American country's exports in the first six months of 2009 totaled $11.11 billion in exports, compared to $10.11 billion in imports.
Peru's trade surplus hit $1.7 billion in the same period in 2008, with $16.2 billion in exports and $14.5 billion in imports.
The ministry of foreign trade and tourism report says mining exports fell 34.1 percent compared to the first half in 2008.
