Rubin Kazan beat Saturn 2-1 Sunday to secure its maiden Russian league title with three games left to play in the season.
Rubin has 60 points from 27 games in the 16-team league. CSKA Moscow is second, 10 points behind, followed by Dinamo Moscow and Amkar with 44. Former champion Zenit St. Petersburg and Spartak Moscow have 43 points.
Second-half substitutes Roman Adamov (75th) and Serbian striker Savo Milosevic (89th) scored for Rubin. Peter Nemov had an 80th-minute equalizer for the home side, Saturn.
Rubin, a team from Kazan, 750 kilometers (450 miles) east of Moscow, is the third non-Moscow team to win the league championship.
Alaniya Vladikavkaz took the title in 1995 and Zenit St. Petersburg won last season.
