A Slovak food safety official says unsafe levels of the chemical melamine have been found in a shipment of chocolate bisuits and snacks imported from China.
State Veterinary and Food Institute director Maria Kantikova says the four products contained three to four times more melamine than the legal limit.
Kantikova said Friday the consignment had not hit market shelves and will be destroyed.
A high level of melamine was also found in a milk drink illegally imported to Slovakia last week. Slovakia began testing food products from Asia for melamine two weeks ago.
The testing came after baby formula containing melamine was blamed for killing four babies and sickening about 54,000 in mainland China.
