A snowmobiler has died after being buried by an avalanche on a western Canadian mountain.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police Cst. Craig Douglass says rescuers dug two men out of the deep snow in the Monashee mountains southeast of Prince George, British Columbia, after the snowslide hit Friday afternoon. Douglass says one of the men was not breathing and could not be revived. The other man survived without injuries.

Police have not released the identities of the men.

Avalanches have killed 15 people in western Canada in the past several weeks, including one that buried eight snowmobilers late last month near Fernie, British Columbia.
