The Swiss Air Force on Sunday confirmed a report that a Swiss military plane nearly collided with a business jet above Geneva earlier this month.
The F-18 Hornet fighter plane had been on a training flight on June 4 when it almost crashed with the civilian plane flying from Spain, Swiss Air Force spokesman Juerg Nussbaum said, confirming the report published Sunday in the weekly SonntagsZeitung.
He said the incident is being investigated.
The Zurich paper said the F-18 was being prepared for security flights over stadiums during the European Championship soccer tournament being held in Austria and Switzerland.
Nussbaum also confirmed a second Air Force incident in which an unmanned drone was forced Friday to make an emergency landing with a parachute in central Switzerland. He said that in that case, an ignition cable failure caused motor problems.
