Peter Reid's halting departure from the Thailand coaching job has finally been confirmed, with the national football association seeking a replacement as the Englishman commits himself to being an assistant coach at Stoke City.
Since departing for England last month, Reid's future had been in doubt. There were reports he might juggle the two jobs, and the Football Association of Thailand had tried to woo him back.
"I didn't think allowing Reid to take up both jobs would work, so we agreed to call it a day," FAT president Worawi Makudi was quoted to say by The Nation newspaper on Thursday.
Assistant coach Steve Darby was expected to fill the role while a permanent replacement was sought.
Reid, 53, was an England international midfielder who played predominantly at Bolton, Everton and Manchester City. He enjoyed success as a manager at Manchester City and Sunderland before brief spells at Leeds and Coventry.
